Part Deux : Family Room

Warning : : Work In Progress : :
I thought I would give you all a quick update on how my family room is coming a long.  I have been making a few changes here and there as you will see:

Couches:
-you might be noticing that these are different than the original ones.  Well, these white ones where in my living room and I decided to do a switch a roo (although, now living room really looks like the “poop” room…brown walls, brown couches).
-Still needing some fabulous cushions (can’t get myself to commit to a color or pattern – I think I have issues – ha!

Wall Behind Couch:
-Trying out a flower collage & by trying out I mean popping some pictures up onto some existing nails.  Hubby also thinks this is ugly (doesn’t care for old things as much as I do).  Thoughts?  I have a few more little flower pictures.  Could mix in the bird picture and the M’s? And maybe the current mirror over the fireplace.

Mantel:
-I have a call into the painter to paint the mantel white (yay!)

-I picked up this bird picture (which hubby things is ugly but I was feeling a bit of an Anthropologie vibe, myself).  I don’t think I’ll keep it there as I am DROOLING over the venetian mirror (last picture).  Is it too ornate for the fireplace?????   I’ve been wanting one forever and I’ll probably have to wait a little longer but it might be worth saving for.

– The M’s  will move but are just sitting pretty for now

-Basket.. not sure about this.  Thinking maybe I need to go with a more rustic approach like a wire basket or tin bucket (with wood in it of, course).

Shelves:
-Still need more and more books to fill in the shelves
-Updated the baskets with cloth ones – I like this much better

Chair:
-This was a garage sale find this past summer.  It is kind of hideous but I thought if I moved it into the house I’d get around to painting and recovering sooner than later.  So it is waiting for a makeover but I like the spot.
-The pictures above need some softer frames but they will either stay there or go over the fireplace (to the right of the Venetian, should she ever be mine)!

So as you can see there is still work to be done but I’m glad I’m at least moving along and a big thank you to all of you that gave me a push & fabulous inspiration!  Cheers!

Trina, it’s looking great! I actually love the layered look on your mantel. And totally get the Anthropologie vibe with the bird print too.

Fun too see how it’s coming along. Has the mirror on the last picture a frame? Is the black its frame?
    Have a lovely day!

thanks everyone…just wanted to give you all a little update..
Zizzi- no the black is just the background of the picture. There is not “frame” around the Venetian mirror it is just all glass looking…

I would get some natural woven baskets for the bookcase. There are some great (affordable) options from Crate and Barrel. They will add a little texture and color. I have three on the console table that our TV is on… they have handles and house all of our manuals, extra cables, cameras, etc.

The room is really coming together! It’s amazing how much a little rearranging will change a room, too.

My eyes are fixed on that ampersand on the bookshelf – I’m such a typography freak!
