A Bit of a Blurrrr

{image : Trina McNeilly}

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Years!  It was all a bit of a blur for me.  Our last round of company left yesterday and the kids started school today so it is back to the crazy rush around of life.
I have a list just starring at me full of things I need to do…must do… have to do.  Things I have been putting off for two weeks, like paying bills!
But here is a BIG list that is yet to be written.  Or maybe better put, dreamed up!  And that would be my list of goals (such a dodgy word) perhaps “attempts” for the year is a better use of vocabulary.  I like to make these lists up every New Year as I am sure most do.  My list is bit more encompassing than to lose 5 pounds.  Of course it always includes that along with many other things.  Including quite a few that would seem unachievable.  But I write them down anyways.  It is a good of use of faith and hope, that is what I say.
Do you write down goals, dreams, yearly plans like I do?
I was reading my list from last year and was happy that I was able to mark a few things off my list and then a little sad that some things just did not happen.  However, I was more stuck on the thought of those few things that ALWAYS appear on my list every year.  I suppose it wouldn’t be fair to call them actual things to achieve because perhaps they are, in fact, things that one might never fully achieve.  Things like be a better wife and mother.  Full of sub points such as:  to speak more kindly, show more love, be a better listener, to not freak out over the small things and to be more positive.  The truth is, knowing me, these things (a long with others) will most likely make my list every year.  And instead of it being a bad thing, maybe it is a good thing?  Good to be aware of.   Good to not just be at a stand still.  Good to keep moving forward on things that really do matter.
My list consists of several Main goals (more like book chapters) and then more specific ones underneath (the actual story).  Some of my chapters are:
Massive Overall & General Ones
*this one usually contains my outlandish ideas, goals or maybe I better call them wishes.  But some have been known to come true!
Personal
Family
Spiritual
Physical
Professional
A Reading List
As I said, I haven’t quite managed to get myself to put my list together just yet.  I do hate to write some of the things down twice and have a repeat, but so be it.  I think I’ll give myself some time to get this done, maybe the whole month..so I can really think things through.
So to all of you that have made your list of goals or things you like to do, see, be, and read.  Great job and to all that haven’t I hope this encourages you to do so.  And if you are a little like me and the idea of writing things down that you feel you might not accomplish is a bit daunting…well, it is.  But there is something about writing things down.  It is almost magical.  It is the added fairy dust to the thoughts and wishes that are already running around in your head. It is a known fact that when you write something down you are more likely to do (accomplish) it!  So be brave, be imaginative, dream big, have faith and a great year awaits you!
My apologies for the long windedness but I suppose this is what happens when you take a 2 week blogging break!
I would love to hear some of your goals or dreams for the Year.  Little or BIG!
xx Trina

Happy New Year Trina! I have just done a post on some of my goals for the year – I’m sure they will change as the year progresses but I think its good to have a bit of a plan. Tracey x

I like the idea of having a list to start the new year, but find it’s too much pressure to keep such a list. I kinda find the blog and a personal handwritten diary like an ongoing stream of lists. In fact, if there was a list, it would be to write more in the handwritten diary. I used to write all the time. There was more time, I realise. Not a bad thing, or good, just is.

    yeah, your back!

    I don’t make list. I don’t know why but I don’t.
I do have a “Wish Book”
I write down what I want to accomplish, what I want, what I would like to do etc.
I also cut pictures/images/ something that represents that wish.
I date it and when the wish is granted, I place the date of the granting under the wished date.

I’ve always known you should write your goals you wish to achieve down, I’ve just never done it. I might need to put that on my list:)

    Happy 2009 Trina!!!

Writing all these thoughts down means you are halfway there. I always think the most important goal and the thing I strive for is to be positive. A positive outlook can overcome much, so that is my main goal this year – forever positive. xv

That is a great goal Vickie….pretty much anything can be accomplished when we stay positive.

I use my journal to keep a list of things I would like to try to accomplish. There is also an on-going list of things I need to keep an eye out for: such as books, CD’s, fabric, new and special pens, ink, greeting cards and notes. Then before I go on an outing, I check my list. Journaling your everyday goals and then accomplishments can lead to ‘sweet dreams’ at the end of the day.

Spend a day at the spa & splurge on something big. I hope your list is as wonderful and encouraging to you as mine is to me. Dream big and don't let anything hold you back this year. Lets all be positive! HAPPY NEW YEAR
