If your are anything like me than you fully enjoy buying a brand new skin care product. It’s like buying magic in a jar. At least all that it promises to do puts it in the magic category. However, not all products are as good as they sound. And not all are created equally. This is what I currently have on my little beauty tray:
This a really nice mild cleanser that always does this trick. I like to try new cleansers but always seem to come back to this one.
A lovely cucumber smell and a great consistency for a day cream. Like the cleanser, I always come back to this moisturizer.
A great anti-aging serum
This is truly supposed to be magic in a jar. And maybe I am crazy, but it just hasn’t been magic for me. This product is very much an indulgence and was given to me as a gift. It is definitely out of my price range. So there is a slight chance I have been using it to scarcely (in order to prolong it’s life) to see proper results.
Now this one I love…Adore, actually. It is a lighter fare than the other and just feels like silk on your skin. I don’t know how I am going to manage another bottle of this but where there is a will there is way (maybe).
This is by far my favorite eye cream. I’m sure you wouldn’t doubt it. A little goes a very long way. The consistency is perfect and it comes with a little silver tipped applicator that helps cool the skin and just feels like some sort of mini spa treatment.
I came across this spot acne treatment in the back of some magazine when I was in high school. I was looking for some magic to take away some ugly pimples and this sounded like it would do the trick and it really did. I just reacquainted myself with the product recently to attack some ugly spots again. This can be found online and at Nordstrom’s.
This is one of my absolute new favorites. It is a mist spray that contains no water, actually. It is made from bamboo sap which is also known as “divine water.” It has the most lovely smell and makes your skin feel so hydrated. I like to spray my cheeks after blush for that dewy look.
About a year ago I came across all of these great European/French lines at CVS (don’t know if they still carry them?) and picked up this spa water spray that is a great moisture spritz for your face. I love a little refresher like this and it is full of minerals that are said to soothe the skin.
I usually use the Estee Lauder one but thought I’d try something new. I just might like this one a little more but will probably switch back as it is a little more cost effective.
This is by far my favorite perfume and has been for quite awhile. A lot of perfumes bother me and are just too heavy. This one is clean, fresh and perfect in every way. Another favorite of mine is Amazing Grace by Philosophy.

Oh! You have such amazing creams. The recession has really zapped my beauty budget. I’m still enjoying my Cle de Peau anti-cernes eye cream, which has lasted for almost a year. I’ve given up on cleansers and now use Neutrogena make-up remover cleansing towelettes. I swear by them…and recently I found a face cream at Whole Foods that is lovely. It’s called vitamin a and green tea creme by derma e. (was $19, i think). If all else fails, i’ll bum samples off the sales clerks in the barneys cosmetic department!

What a fun post Trina. I was given some La Mer hand creme for my birthday and it is really very good – light and not too greasy or slippery. I haven’t used their products before either so I might just have to try your recommendation of the moisturizing lotion. xv

I’ve tried Creme de la Mer too and didn’t see any real results either. For the price I was disappointed. I ended up going back to my cheap Aveeno moisturizer from the drugstore.
my favorite and my best

mmmm..la mer! what a lucky girl you are…i think the person who gave those lovlies to you deserves a mention. well done! i wish la mer would give out samples. i would like to try so many of their products but forking out big bucks without trying it first feels a little foolish. BUT…if i liked i would come up with a way..right? right. loved the post. i too share a love (obsession?) with beauty products. and am trying new stuff all the time. you have inspired me to do a similar post. although i am going to try to keep it between 10-20 dollars. just for fun. you stopped by my blog a while ago when i posted on diorshow mascara.
thanks for that!
and thanks for the blog’spiration!

these all sound wonderful. I am so boring, I still use the clinique 3 step program from high school.

A visit to the department store to pick up a new moisturizer led to a big hole in my bank balance. Apparently with age comes not wisdom but pricier products. I still hold on to Chanel’s Gentle Hydrating Toner and Microperle Exfoliating Gel for their fresh smell, though.

That is weird…My favourite fragrances are Bath & Amazing Grace too! I loathe strong smelling perfumes but these just smell clean and fresh – like freshly laundered clothes:)
If you like these you may also like Jo Malone's White Jasmine & Mint Fragrance http://www.jomalone.co.uk/site.nsf/homepage?readform&CartID=12977-235547
I have these three perfumes on my bathroom basin – with the glass bottles and silver lids – they look so simple yet so lovely!
BTW – I was not able to locate the Borders Union Jack Journal – I'm devastated!! :(
Thanks for all your lovely posts.

I love these sort of posts! The UK skincare guru Josephine Fairley claimed in her book that when la mer was tested on volunteers they all gave it very low ratings saying it didn’t improve their skin and felt awful! I would love to try their eye cream but it’s out of my budget sadly.
I have been using a range called It Works – it is by another UK woman called Kathy Phillips and based on aromatherapy. I am convinced that aromatherapy is the best thing for my skin. I often mix up my own bends using rosehip oil and anti-ageing oils. I love them. It Works is a no nonsense range that smells divine.
I also believe that you have to supplement from within for healthy skin so I take a heap of vitamins. They aren’t as sexy as some of the skin care ranges around and they don’t have celebs pushing them but I think they work a lot better than some miracle creams.
I haven’t tried the Estee Lauder night repair but I have been meaning to. Do you know it’s one of Nigella Lawson’s favourites?

Well, girls I’m glad to hear that I am not crazy about not being head over heals for the Creme de la mer. Love hearing about what you use too….
Primrose.. I didn’t know that the night repair was one of Nigella’s favourites.. now it’s even went up in my book.. she has gorgeous skin. And how interesting about the testing for la mer.
Thanks for the comments and suggestions… keep them coming!

I was just thinking about posting something like this the other day…and Im glad to know that the La mere cream is not all that! I actually wanted to tell you about this line I found at Target that comes from Isreal. Its called Yes To Carrots, and I absolutely love it all, the C eye cream and the exfoliating face wash especially! Maybe I will post this afterall. I love it when I find a good product. But the bummer is that you dont know how long they will have it,
ANd the other product I love is Bloom makeup. Google it and see where you can try it out!

I love your little mirrored tray–it makes each product seem that much more of an indulgence! And that ‘bamboo water’ spritz sounds just heavenly!
