Bedroom Update {Opinions Needed}

Things are moving along.  Here is the floor before it was painted….

And here is a sneak peak of after.  Once the floor settles there will be more
gaps in the planks, which I like.
I ordered a whole yard of the fabric to get a better idea and I think I REALLY like it.
And here is my dilemma (there is always a dilemma).  Hubby says I can either have the trim (doors, etc) painted (bright white) or the room (would want to do white but would probably only be able to go as light as the trim).  But not both (eheheh).  I am leaning towards the trim since it sits right next to the white floor and it is a dingy cream color.  As you can see in the top photo my wall color looks darker at night (of course) but I’m also thinking the room color may look a little darker once the trim is lightened up.  What do you think?  I’ve already told the painter to do the trim (suppose to start tomorrow) because I think trim is a bigger ordeal and as I said it buts right up to the floor (and someone has to paint the shoe anyways).

Yes, paint the trim. Its gonna make things look so nice and clean, you may not even mind not painting the walls…….yet.

A fresh white trim will accent a wall color. A sleek clean look will be the result, and with that floor. Yes paint!

I agree, paint the trim first! You’ll be surprised how much that will brighten up the room!

LOVE your floor! so great, and when it gets a bit scuffed from the years of living on it – will only look better!

Definitely paint the trim. When you get tired of the walls, paint them a *warm white (not cream), keeping your floor and trim the bright white – and you will be able to see the contrast. All will feel clean, clean, clean!

    LOVE your fabric!

I think the trim would benefit from painting more than the walls. Since the trim is the buffer between the wall and newly painted floor, the trim has to tie the new floor to the wall. Plus the old trim is going to look even older next to the new floor unless you get it painted.

I agree that you should paint the trim, love your new white floor. I’m having floor envy, would love white floors but not possible at the moment. New to your blog but have bookmarked it in my faves!

I don’t think I need to say it one more time but I do it anyway: paint the trim! you can always paint or paper the walls afterwards. All the woodwork white will look fab.

I think painting the trim a bright white is a good idea, especially like you said its right next to the white floor and any hint of non-white probably stands out. BTW I love how the painted floors turned out!

ooh – such extraordinary fabric! gorgeous. i think i am the lone dissenter here – but i would definitely choose to paint the walls, only because i think it will change the whole feel of the room vs a change in trim “shade”…i just love all shades of cream, ivory and pure whites layered together! but no matter which you choose, it will be so beautiful:) what a serene space!

No doubt…your eye will follow a good paint job. Seems like the most attractive feature in any room (other than the floor) is the trim. Pick a great painter or take the extra time to do an impeccable job on the trim yourselves. The walls are always easier to fill in when you have the time. A great “foundation” really doesn’t need a whole lot of embellishment—it suits almost any aesthetic choice! Good luck—beautiful room!

I would definitely paint the trim, cabinetry, fireplace, and french doors a crisp white. I just moved into my new home on this past friday, April 3, 2009 and I have my master bedroom, guest bedroom and bath in that french blue but I have yet to find curtains that I love! What website or store did you order your fabric because I just heart that color and material. It is fabulous!

I’d go with trim, too. You can always do the walls down the road, and if your painter is pricey, you can always hire Beck! She just started a painting business and I’m sure she’d make you a deal. :-) (www.simplestartinc.com).

    Happy Easter!

Wow – the floor looks fabulous! Are you so excited at how great it turned out? I vote for the trim too especially since it’s right next to the white floor (plus trim is a pain to paint!).

Great sneak peek – can’t wait to see the rest!

Nice floor, I’d love a white floor.
Go for the trim, it will look fresh and the paint job on the walls is easier to do later if need be.
    Another DIY project, right?

Have them paint the trim and paint the walls yourself- it’s soooo easy! Just make sure you buy the little edgers with wheels to paint around the trim and the ceiling and it’s a breeze! ♥

oooh white floors – love them! they look great! go the trim first and then if you do paint the walls white, be very careful what colour you choose – it will look dirty next to bright white trim. i found that out when i did all my walls – ended up tinting the trim the same colours to match the walls. with the white floors as well i’d either go all the same shade of white or go a bolder completely contrasting wall colour or wallpaper. can’t wait to see more pics!

I envy your white floors so much. My husband would never authorize that much. And with a dog, a cat and two kids maybe he is right… but.. sigh…
