Ok, I know I said I wasn’t posting ….but I need a little help. My living room got painted (sorry for the i phone quality). And as I’ve said I am pretty sure I’m going to get a Venetian Mirror. This is the size of it. I think I’d rather go taller than wider. It is more narrow than what I want so I taped it off (I know it’s crooked) to get an idea.
What do you think?
I’m thinking it might end up looking a bit like this….
Whatever I do I need to just take the plunge and go for it…. I’ve been thinking about this for, oh, like a year….
Happy Weekend!
xoxo

sometimes i hate honesty, but i have to tell you that i don't love that mirror….
i think the frame is too glitzy….but if that's the look you want, go for it.
i think something more silvery and still ornate, with less cut glass, would be my choice….

I think it will be GORGEOUS!! Because it is narrow, I would just fill up the space one either side with something that didn't take away from the mirror- maybe an obalesque (no idea how to spell but I have a mirrored one on my fireplace and love it- a brass/gold one would also play nicely against your mirror)on one side and a white glass vase with flowers on other- two large matching urns on either side would look great too.
In any event, BUY the mirror- you won't regret it…promise!!! xxx

That is BEAUTIFUL mirror! Venetians are always worth the splurge and it would look fabulous on your mantle, you should just go for it :) It's something you'll be able to have forever.

It is a gorgeous mirror and if you feel it is to narrow for the space why not hang three pictures on either side in a run….would look fabulous. Maybe black and whites or even smaller distressed mirrors (in keeping with the Venetian glass) with simple silver frames…just a thought, xv.

If no one has suggested it yet…Put a pair lovely (candle)sconces, to scale it correctly. In a bronze tone and have in wash in a silver over tone. Another idea, is get a set of four great printed & framed flowers in the color of your room…Flake two on either side. Your mirror, is lovely. Enjoy!~m.

i say go for it, but dont hang it. it looks like hte tape you've put up is sitting up from the mantle a bit so i'm guessing you plan to hang it. I think it would be better sitting on the mantle like your inspriation pic, and that way it would leave a bit of room at the top which would look better proportionally.
i like vicki's idea too!
go on – can't lose!! jxx

I think you are absolutely right to go with a taller mirror, however I must agree with Beth in that I think the style may be a little too lavish. I'd go for something a little less ornate for this room. I think it will last longer style wise.
Best of luck with it all!

I really love your plan .
I have a taller, narrower mirror on my mantel and I love how it raises the eyes.
Can't wait to see the beauty unveiled.

i love the mirror, adds a little bling to the space without going totally overboard with gilt :)
esp when you add some other things to the mantlepiece :)

I love the look of a Venetian mirrors on a pedestal, on top of chimneys and even in a not so bright corner of a room. It adds glamour and personality.I've seen many window's of antique shops displying these lately here in Paris. Are they making some kind of comeback ? I say go for it, it's lovely.
