You know what has been my fave this week? L’s writing. There is something so super lovely about kids handwriting when they first begin. It is la la and a whole lot of lovely. I put another little note up from L on Instagram yesterday. Speaking of that I’m doing the Feb Photo a Day deal. Are you? You can follow along right here.
Are you super bowling it this weekend? I haven’t thought much about it other than I wonder what Madonna is going to wear and what kind of food would I make if I had a party. And that about sums up my relationship with football. I suppose that will have to change in the near future being that I’m bringing up a brood of 3 boys.
What is on my mind is> black. I’m taking the plunge and painting my powder room black. Or at least getting started. Hopefully I can report back to you on Monday that I have at least taped the room. Here is the thing of it, lovelies, I don’t paint. I can paint furniture but not rooms. I don’t know if I have ever painted a room [I should not be admitting this, right??]. And probably attempting black in small room with a lot of trim and cabinets to get around is not my brightest of ideas. But, fear not, I am smart in this way . . . . I figure that if I mess it up, it will have to be fixed. And for that we will have to call in the professionals. Mr. la la is not up for me hiring a painter to do the job but if I mess it up. What else can be done but to call in a professional. I do intend to try my best, don’t get me wrong. But I do like a good back up plan. But let’ not tell the mister about this little back up plan.
Back to the super bowl. I do feel that I may need to bake something. Something terribly bad for you, yet terribly delicious. I think these oreo whatever they are brownies will do the trick. I’m getting fat just looking at them.
Happy Weekend lovelies. Cross your fingers for my painting and eat something terrible too. And now . . .
Making It Lovely ‘s new site design. You can choose between a “minimal” or “maximal” theme. Inventive!

I like toast a lot + now I’m certain I need to eat it this way.
Speaking of toast, A Piece of Toast, 2 sisters, one blog = new fave.
I’ve been a smoothie making machine as of late. It might only get worse because of this.
I’m working on inspiration for Elle’s room. Have you seen any great images? Here is my pin board so far.
Don’t Carpe Diem. This article is like the golden ticket explanation, antidote, answer to mom’s everywhere.
Brownie recipe again. In case you ignored me the first time.

Um…. I kinda paint rooms for a living. So. My advice on painting black (or any dark color, really) is to use flat or eggshell finish. Unless you are painting wood paneling, a gloss paint will look streaky and harsh. If you are taping, spend the extra few bucks and buy Frog Tape. It has a paint resisting agent in the sticky stuff that keeps the paint from bleeding underneath. My favorite size of brush to paint trim is a 2 1/2 inch angled. It’s easier to hold and work with. And for the rolling part, be sure to use the proper roller cover for the job. Textured walls need a thick nap. Smooth walls do best with a smaller nap, or even a foam roller cover. Good luck! Show us how it turns out.

@Miz.November, Oh, thanks for all the advice. Super helpful. I was wanting use flat but figured maybe I should use the matte so I can somewhat wipe it down – you know with 4 kids and all. I already taped last night and I get nervous about my taping because I usually over tape then when I pull it off there are blank spots. I tried to be less tapey but we shall see. I’ll def keep note of the frog tape next time! Off to get my paint! Have a great weekend, Jo. XO
Oh and I had bought an angled 2″ brush for the trim/cutting….do you think that is too small?
