Desert Style

It’s no secret that Southwest + desert style is big right now.  And I’m totally on board with this look.  In fact, I was on board in 7th grade when we decorated my room in a Southwest theme.  Yep, southwest wallpaper border, a wooden pink howling coyote and all.  Of course, I also have a special place in my heart for the southwest as we vacation there every year.  It really is my home away from home.

I love the the modern elements mixed in with the tribal patterns and texture.  However, my favorite thing of all is the cactus.  I find them to be so whimsical and interesting.  Lately,  I’m looking for ways to  incorporate the look into my home minus the pink howling coyote.

Do you like the desert style or do you think it is just a passing trend?

You know, I really thought that it got played out there for a while (back in my younger days). But I think that if it’s done right it has major staying power. It’s one of those things that I always go back to thinking “you know, you’re really cool. I don’t know why more people don’t like you.” Does that make sense?

Totally. I think people used to decorate in “themes” not so long ago and this is always the problem. A room can have a feel or a vibe but a full out theme…no good. But you know me… I love an eclectic mix.
