Monday Mess . Reverie Daydream

There are not many people that come sweeter than Melissa of Reverie Daydream.  I’ve had the pleasure of chatting with Melissa online for quite sometime and somehow we missed meeting the first year we were both at ALT… but we made it a point this last year to meet and I’m so glad we did.  Mel is just one of those people that is truly genuine.  She is that girl that you would want as your BFF.  She just has as sweet spirit about her.  If you don’t know anything about Melissa than you should know that her husband is an artist, her darling daughter is called crumb, she lives in wine country, teaches yoga and has a beautiful online shop.  She has made such a happy life with her little family and I’m always so inspired by that.

This is my bedside table.  It seems to gather all the little things that make me smile, or the items I tend to prefer nearby when I fall asleep or awake.  My space here is a revolving library of books, notepads for when I wake up and need to jot down my thoughts, fresh flowers and sweet offerings from my little crumb.  Although I do enjoy having all these things nearby, I need to simplify the pretty mess a bit.

My desk needs tone cleaned more than anything else in the house.  With the arrival of summer, I have placed almost all projects (filing, calendars, inventory, new recipes, etc.) on the back burner.  Sunshines lures me outdoors from sunrise to sunset, and it also seems to shine an even brighter light upon the piles that continue to grow upon the desktop.  I’m sure my beloved organized husband is hoping for a rainy day soon.

The stacks of books, magazines, and journals that seem to fill several surfaces of our cottage make me happy.  They may seem like heaping stacks of mess to some, but for me, I find comfort in having all those read / unread words, written thoughts and glossy images surrounding me.  I have promised not to add anymore to the gathered groupings until I have read or perused through the pages that already await me.  That’s fair enough, right?

The wise words of architect Mies van der Rohe always seem to whisper through my thoughts ~ “Less is more.”  I want to continue to live this way but take these words into every moment and implement in the surroundings of our lives.  We make monthly efforts to purge and clear the looming ‘stuff’ which just gathers dust and really serves no purpose.  There are few things (besides books) which  am sentimental over, so the goal of being able to live minimally and simplify is an attainable one.

I love everything about Melissa’s world and I’ll take her messes any day. Especially that pretty little bedside scene. We have a long way to go with the less is more mantra around my house but I did purge two drawers today in my bedroom and that felt fantastic. Melissa in my inspiration in this department. I’m far too sentimental with all my “stuff.”

Yay for purging your drawers. I have a ways to go too and not sure I’ll ever quite get there with 4 little ones but I keep trying! xo . t

i love that melissa has put everything on the back-burner in an effort to ‘play in the sun.’ she is inspiring on so many levels- through her posts, her ig pics, tweets, and even comments that i sometimes see as i’m heading down the stream of comments before placing my own.

I’m so drawn to the less is more mantra, and to pretty things. My own home at the moment reflects neither! Working on a purge in preparation to bringing more lovely in. Thanks for having the lovely Melissa here to inspire me (again).

I’m drawn to less is more too….it feels like a losing battle with 4 kids but I’m trying to fight it anyways! Melissa is truly lovely! Good luck with your purge!
