Monday Mess . My Laundry

Hi lovelies.  OK, want to see something not so lovely?  My laundry.  It’s definitely a regular mess on Mondays (and pretty much every other day of the week) around here.  I can’t seem to stay on top of all of the clothes…washing, folding and putting away.  I try not to feel too bad about it because with 4 kids it always going to be a never ending task.  But I’m not going to lie, every time I walk back into my laundry room I get a little depressed.  I don’t have a fool proof system and to be honest, I kind of don’t want one.  Well, I don’t want to do laundry every day is what I don’t want.  But what about you?  Do you have a laundry routine or system?  I’d love to know.  I’m up for ideas and suggestions.  I have a few pointers or suggestions that might be helpful if you are looking for some insight yourself:

  • Do a load of laundry everyday (Confession : I don’t do this.  I let it pile up really high and then go crazy once a week).
  • Fold clothes immediately in the laundry room (this helps if you tend to let clothes sit in the basket until they are wrinkled).
  • Have a separate laundry basket for each person in your house + after clothes are folded put them in their appropriate basket + have each person put their own laundry away (my friend suggested this + I’m going to give this a try).
  • Keep a hamper for darks and a hamper for lights….that way your laundry is already sorted + ready to wash.

And speaking of laundering, do you have a favorite detergent or stain remover?  I’d love to know if you like any natural and environmentally friendly ones.  Right now I’m using the Tide Pods and am trying this stain remover.

P.S.  Notice anything funny about the first photo?  It’s only Liam Brave trying to take a spin in the washing machine.

    I can’t imagine trying to keep up with 4 kids laundry!! I would DEFINITELY be assigning some of that chore to them- there is no reason they can’t help you out! I do laundry for my 8 month old, husband and I are try to get ALL of it done every Sunday. That means even the clothes you wore Saturday are washed, folded, and put away on Sunday. My little one spits up quite a bit so I usually have to do one extra load mid-week. But my one caveat is that I do NOT iron.

    With a toddler who may be the messiest eater alive (a slight exaggeration, but even her daycare lady says that she’s extra messy), we’ve found the honest company stain remover combined with their oxy pods to be awesome. Caution ahead: There is some pre-cleaning. I usually go through all the clothes, spray on the stain remover. Then fill a tub with a few pods of the oxy and let everything soak for an hour or two (or three if by some slight miracle there’s coffee and a magazine involved). Then just dump the tub with the clothes and oxy water straight into the washer. I put in an extra oxy pod if there was mud or other extra gross stuff involved. The Honest stuff seems to be more natural than others I’ve come across and even though my daughter has sensitive skin, it seems to be fine for her. {Side note: I don’t envy your laundry situation. I see that in our very near future. But the hamper for lights and darks sounds like a great start.}

    Well, we live in a rural area so we have our own drainfield/septic/well… and so we use Seventh Generation detergent and softener in the lavender scent. It is very eco-aware!

    I totally saw and leg and thought wtf?! Ha too funny. I NEVER iron so hanging up clothes or folding them is the key for me.

    I love your monday mess posts! With an unconventional work schedule i always feel like im behind when i didnt have the weekend like so much of the world to attempt to catch up. The posts on mondays remind me that even the most fabulous ladies have one thing they just cant get ahead on. That being said, we wait for laundry and spend a whole day catching up on it!
