Yes, today is Monday Mess but a different kind. I’m encouraging you to make one. Well, this really rad book is, actually. I came across this book, likely on Pinterest, and thought it was really pretty but then I looked into it and realized that it was much more than a clever book cover, in fact, it looks like a book that I need and a mess that I need to make. Written by Keri Smith, author of Wreck This Journal, Mess is simply this,
“Your whole life you’ve been taught to avoid making a mess: Try to keep everything under control, color inside the lines, make it perfect, and at all costs, avoid contact with things that stain.
This book asks you to do the opposite of what you have been taught. Think of it as your own personal rumpus room. A place to let loose, to trash, to spew, to do the things you are not allowed to do in the “real world.” It’s time to make a mess.
The only three rules you’ll find in this book:
1. Do not try to make something beautiful.
2. Do not think too much. (There is no “wrong.”)
3. Continue under all circumstances.”
I have to admit, I am a world class rule follower. I always ask permission rather than forgiveness. I take directiosn way to serisouly and most of the time I take myself a little too seriously too. I don’t think this is necessarily a bad thing, esecpically when it comes to the big things but when the little things are involved or creativity comes in to play it can be a real stopper. So…. I am getting this book, my Christmas present to myself. Anyone want to join me? Here is to making not only embracing the mess but making one.
P.S. while on Keri Smith’s blog I came across a post that said…”All creative mom’s watch this video.” I thought you might like it too. Parts of it, hit me head on.
