you may remember that i recently re-decorated my family room? well, the biggest item i deliberated on was the couch. to ikea or not to ikea? i’m going to be totally honest, (because why wouldn’t i be?) i really didn’t want to get an ikea couch. i had a much grandeur idea. kirsten, kept convincing me otherwise. the truth is ,i wanted a white couch, i wanted a sectional and i didn’t want to stress over a brood of 4 kids living on the piece. so ikea it was. and specifically, the karlstad sofa and chaise.
but, i wasn’t about to settle for the regular block legs. so we jazzed it up a bit by changing out the legs in a very inexpensive way.
here is what you need :
6″ round taper legs and straight top plates (with screws). i ordered mine from hardware world. you could even stain the legs if you prefer dark wood or a richer look. i was going for a natural scandinavian feel so it felt best to leave the legs as is.
what do you think? have you ever updated ikea furniture?

I just made my first trip to IKEA this past weekend and fell in love! I too saw a sofa there, the price is SO tempting. I think you did a beautiful job with this!

I love my Karlstad sofa! Over a year later(I have the isundla gray color), its in great condition…and my two dogs sleep on it every day. I ordered the stainless legs to replace the block legs.

i really contemplated the gray. if the white gets too dirty…i think i’ll get that slipcover for sure. so glad to hear yours is holding up with dogs and all :) the stainless legs are nice too! xo .t
