happy friday lovelies. has it been a lovely one? this week has been a good one. it had moments i was wishing my way out of and ones i wished didn’t end. and, between all of those minutes, there were dishes, desserts (which i should have passed on), laundry, snuggling and cat fights (no cats involved, only children). it was good, even with the bad, because it was life lived. hard, and good, and true.
i picked up my knitting needles this week. they’ve been hiding out in my closet for about 4 years, and every time i run in to grab a sweater, they whisper my name. i have no project or purpose just an urge to use my hands and find another way to relax. i picked up some leftover yarn, and am now in the middle of making a (probably half) scarf that, likely, no one will wear. however, roccco thinks its a blanky and it just might work as that, for a stuffed animal. i just wanted to get the feel of it again and see if i would remember. i did. when i’m ready for a project i think i might make a blanket. i like the idea of doing something relaxing to create more rest and relaxation. if you have any patterns (on the easier side) or fave place for yarn, do share.
it’s still frigid here. snow falling. snow blowing. antartica looking. school was cancelled again, and by the looks of it, might be canceled, again, next week. this usually results in baking and tv watching. thus the muffins above.
happy weekend, i hope its just what you need it to be!
A FEW OF MY FAVES THIS WEEK +
01 / instead of asking, “how was your day?,” ask the right questions. loved this article.
02 / easiest DIY ever that i think i’ll try.
03 / a new travel site – the exploress. i want to be one of those.
04 / do you take coffee with your dessert? i do, but i’d like to try it this way.
05 / do you have mice? i’d be ok if a few came and lived with me.
06 / i’d like to encourage a little relaxation (and hopefully not covetousness).

Trina–First, let me say that I have never posted anything on any site ever. I am a little ashamed to admit this, as I really value reviews that other people leave and insights given by others…perhaps I am turning over a new leaf! :) What has moved me out of this static “do not post anything ever” state is how moved I am by your blog. I gave up on the news a long time ago, but then, in order to give my brain the little vacation it needs in my brief moments to myself daily, I started trolling free gossip news sites (people magazine and the like). Those don’t make me feel as hopeless as the news outlets do, but let me completely honest and say that they don’t leave me feeling refreshed or connected either! Land of Nod’s catalog lead me to you many months ago when you were featured there, and I periodically check in to see what you have posted. You are just the perfect balance of honest, uplifting and sweet and your blog lacks the air of conceit that is virtually omnipresent in this medium. You put things out there in a way that allows your readers to cheer for you without feeling inferior for the ways in which they are different from you. I am not sure how you do it, but it’s a gift and I wanted to tell you how much I appreciate it :). My knitting needles have been idle since I finished the sweater for my first-born 9 years ago (I now have three monkeys)…and your post has inspired me to dig mine out and revisit the beginnings of a cream cable afghan I started years ago. Thank you for making that sound so appealing and thank you for being an uplifting place for a Mama who needs some uplifting from time to time. All the best to you and yours

alexis – i’m not sure where to start except to, graciously, say thank you taking the time to leave such a sweet and thoughtful comment. it is always my hope to be honest and uplifting (which can be a tricky balance) and to share beauty (which comes in many different forms) to those that need a little escape or a gentle reminder that beauty, in its best form, still exists. i’m glad you found this little space (thank you land of nod!)! and, yay for picking up knitting again, too. i hope to start a blanket, myself. i’ve only ever done a baby blanket but think i’d love to try a full size one… it will probably take me until next winter to complete…but i’m ok with that! thank you again for commenting and for your kind words…means so much! xo . t
