Fave Friday + valentines boxes

this week we made it through a flooded basement, little mermaid tryouts, basketball, and valentines boxes. well, the basement is still in disaray, but the play parts are being assigned today and the valentines boxes have been brought in.  as usual, this “should be ahead of holidays” blogger is always behind (both on the blog and at home).  i procrastinate on my children’s homework just as much as i did my own.  i guess some things never change.  well the one thing that has changed is that the

internet is full of ideas.  there was no inter anything in the 80’s and 90’s.  there was only imagination when it came to trying to be ingenious.  the most interesting thing i recall in 1980 something is boys covering shoeboxes with aluminum foil to make robots.  i just continued, year after year, to construct with pink and red construction paper.  nothing hefty.  just hearts and, always, arrows.  while i like being able to to search for ideas in an instant – google images being my go to – i’m all up for just setting out the construction paper, markers and glue and letting a 5 year old do what 5 year olds do.  luke told me yesterday that last year there were kids who’s boxes where bigger then them.  maybe it’s constructing?  possibly parents competing.  it makes me curious.

the above box is the one we came up with after searching images for insight.  we got a concept and then closed the computer.  i did the cutting and liam did the painting.  i caught myself trying to smooth out his strokes.  but, i let it go and let the monster, frog, whatever it is get globby and goopy just the way a 5 year old does best.  liam wanted him to have legs, and because we winged it, he couldn’t quite stand.  apparently, he needed shoes.  so we sent liam to school, with his shoes on his box, a smile on his face, and probably paint in his hair (i didn’t even bother to check).

if your making last minute boxes or are interneting it for inspiration, maybe this will do?

how involved do you get with your kids crafts or school projects?  also, do you hand make your valentines cards or buy the ninja turtle type at the store?

happy weekend, lovelies.  and….a few links i loved this week:

01 /  i still haven’t found what i’m looking for – when it comes to an enchilada recipe.  but i think my search may be over.

02 /  i wrote about scents this week, and now about this for smells.

03 / i feel nostalgic for a time i never had.  interesting conversation on aging.

04 /  i’m pretty excited about this book.  in fact, my home is going to be in it.

05 / DIY rock and mineral cookies are cool.

06 / still la la loving these printable pucker up valentines from a few years back.

IF you’re still looking for a yummy enchilada recipe, my cousin wrote a fantastic one recently. It’s more of a dry style but it’s really fantastic and super easy.
