4 Treats for the 4th of July

Donut Ice Cream Sandwiches

Are you in full swing planning for the fourth?  I tend to take the path of tradition and always make the same thing, with a wish to try new things.  I tend to over complicate.  Can you relate?  That only leaves me leaning on my old stand bys.  So, I figured simple is the secret to branching out.  So I’m sharing four treats to try for the fourth of July.

The other week, I happened to see these donut ice cream sandwiches floating around instagram.  I instantly put them on my summer list, which I should confess is just a noted freeze frame in the brain.  Anyhow, I figured the 4th of July might be the perfect time to try these breakfast desert creations! I once saw, my most favorite, Nigella, scoop out two generous portions of coffee gelato and squidge them between two brioche buns and proceed to eat it like a burger.  A little odd, but mostly intriguing.  And, she says it’s done this way in Italy, so there’s that.  Thank you Paper Stich Blog for this crazy good looking idea.  I’m sure I’ll have more thanks, after I give it a try.

Keep reading for 3 more treats you’ll want to try for the 4th of July . . .

How cute and simple are these fruit salad cones by Bakers Royale?  My kids would love these.  I can count on anything with cones being a hit.

S’more Slutty Brownies by What’s Gaby Cooking (the reigning slutty brownie queen, btw.  Check out all of her variations).  S’mores are always a summertime staple so why not up the ante?

These 4th of July Fruit Kabobs from The Baby Bump Diaries could not be any simpler.  But, that is what I’m going for these days….simple.  I’ve made these before and I can atteset they were a hit with both kids and grown-ups alike.

What a great idea to use cones as salad containers. Brilliant. Hope I remember this comes next party.
My recipe is a vegan and a gluten free brownie as we are on a clean eating diet for the next few weeks. Who says you can not still enjoy dessert?

Such a fun idea, right? How did the brownies turn out? I love the clean ones that are made from cocoa, dates and nuts. xo . t

@Agnes, We simply loved them. Mostly because you eat 2 at the most. THAT IS IT! How is that for self restraint?!Well, mostly it is lack of sugar and dark chocolaty taste that curb the cravings. I must try adding some dates. Great idea. Cheers A.
