happy monday! i wanted to share a few photos from the anthro craft night the other week. we had such a super time making hand stitched journals. anthropologie’s theme for this summer was preserve and so i got thinking and thought about what the word means to me (since i have no idea how to traditionally preserve as in canning jams and such). one thing i have been preserving over the years has been words and ideas and love encouraging others to do the same.
in fact, over the past year the idea of slowing down and noticing has been an unintentional theme in my life. it’s amazing what you will see if you actually look. and in the finding, i’ve found that when you begin to pay attention to the details, you find what you didn’t even know you were looking for.
about a year ago, i washi taped the word flanerie over my bed, after reading about the concept in nicole robertson’s book, paris in color. it is basically the art of slowing down and wondering, sauntering and strolling. in fact, in the 18oo’s in paris it was fashionable to walk with a pet turtle on leash in order to set a slower pace. can you imagine? the whole idea just stuck with me and i wanted to share with others not only the idea of noticing, but also of recording. and, the thought that it doesn’t always have to be with words. i’m a word girl but lately my thoughts are scribbled in shapes and sometimes pasted with papers. a visual to accompany your words is the most powerful way to remember, anyways.
i loved seeing the creativity and individuality (do you see the journal with the turtle on the leash? love it!). i was totally inspired! and i hope you’ll be inspired to create your own journal to preserve your thoughts and the things you notice (if you guys are interested in a tutorial – leave a comment).
thanks to everyone that came out and to anthropologie for hosting such a fun night out!
p.s. also, a big thanks to poppin for all of the super colorful + cute scissors.
