It’s been a while since I’ve made any updates in my home and I was itching for a bit of change. My little office space (which is in my bedroom) was starting to get cluttered and chaotic (see before picture at the end of the post) and so I chose that space for a little TLC. After all, this is where I spend time creating and I’m in need of some new inspiration.

Truthfully, I’m not the greatest at making changes in my own home. I’m your girl if you need advice for your home or project, but when it comes to making decisions about my own space I procrastinate, stall and just skip out. I’m a little afraid of making changes. It kind of always takes someone or something to push me.
And this time…it started with a chair.
Well, actually with a pain in my hip/back and not being able to sit or stay in one place for long. After sitting with towels, taped and rolled, behind my back on my hard plastic chair for too long I decided I needed a nice desk chair. I got to looking and found this beauty from Laura Davidson. It was everything I was looking for design wise (remember this is in my bedroom so I really wanted it to be pretty), it’s affordable (ps- it’s on major sale right now) and it is comfortable.
Next I knew I wanted to switch out my huge white inspiration board for big beautiful art. I’d been eyeing a lot of beautiful pieces over on Minted (I was so happy with this piece in my family room) and I was sure that I wanted something to remind of the southwest, which is a very special place to me.
I decided on a beautiful piece called Blue Cactus by Wilder California that reminds me of Tucson and family and babies and best friends and laughter and memories that color my mind on dreary days.
The other piece I chose is tiny bold print of parenthesis, called Glyphs | Slab by Jack Knoebber, which reminds me to write, every day. Words are where, many times, I feel found and words are what I want to share with others.
Paint is always a pick me up so why not?
I couldn’t paint my entire bedroom, which I would love to do. And, yes you probably already know what color I would go for — WHITE. But working with what I have I decided to add a little pink. I showed my husband the color on the swatch several times and he said sure whatever. When I started painting, he was like, “Why are you painting pink in our room?….I hope there is going to be a deer head over that paint!” I guess he should pay better attention (ha).
I went with Benjamin Moore (color listed below) and decided I wanted to do this crazy thing where you don’t tape and you leave uneven roller marks instead of a clean line (like this). Admittedly, this design would likely look best up against a white background. Personally, I don’t mind the uneven line. I love imperfection and creating spaces that make others think out of the box when it comes to design.
So this is my mini office makeover, lovelies. Where I sit to pen and publish. I’m really happy with how it turned out. I hope it inspires you, like it is inspiring me.

Hi Trina! Love your little office makeover, especially the art you chose. A question about the chair – I sit in a pretty generic cheap cloth office chair, but am looking for a pretty one to replace it and have lower back and hip pain. I know you were using a plastic chair before, but how do you find the comfort and support of the new chair? Do you think it would be supportive enough for someone with chronic lower back pain?
Thanks!

Hi Erin, Thank you so much! I’m finding a big difference after switching from my plastic chair. I had also bought a seat cushion to use on my plastic chair which didn’t make a huge difference. This chair has been exceptionally more comfortable. I find it makes me to have better sitting posture. Just learning to sit straight and bring the computer closer to me, so I’m not leaning forward and hovering over my desk, has made a huge difference. I just added the pillow for the photo but found I kind of like it for a little extra support. For me, no matter what chair I sit in I can’t sit too long. I have to take breaks, talk a walk, stretch, do some standing work. It’s tough for days when I need to sit and write and plug away on the computer, but at least for this season (until my hip and back heal) it’s what I have to do. I know everyone’s body and pain is unique so I can’t make promises, but I have been very happy with my chair and the comfort of it. I’ve ordered many other furniture pieces online that have been less than stellar and this chair is excellent quality. And the price point is fabulous. Hope this helps! xo . Trina

Hi Trina!
I have been reading your blog for a while, and have found lots of great inspiration through it. I actually got the Le tattoo that you had posted on your blog a while ago, but I really love the tattoo on your arm. Could you please tell me what it says.
Hope you have a wonderful rest of your summer!
Kindly,
Kourtney

Hi Kourtney! No way!!!!! I love that you got the “Le” tattoo. My tattoo says, “bien aimé” which means “beloved” in French. I’ll have to share about it in the near future. I never in a million years thought I’d go through with getting a tattoo, but I did and I’m really happy with it. Thank you reading! Have a lovely week! xo . t

Seriously, how much more beautiful can get this get?! I am a huge fan of that color on the walls too. My office has been on hiatus for quite some time…quickly collecting dust. Love that paint idea of splitting it up.

Thank you so much, Chiara. It felt really good to just take the plunge and add a little paint. I finally convinced myself it’s not a big deal…it’s only paint if I’m not happy with the change…. but I’m super happy with it. xo .t

Hello! I am considering one of these chairs for my home office, which is also in my bedroom. How did the white leather hold up? Did you have any problems with color transfer from clothing? I love the white, but am nervous about it looking dingy.

Hi Christina!
My chair has help up really well. I do have some grey type streaks on the seat… which looks almost like dirt (or just dirty)…it’ really hard for me to tell…because I have four kids and they sometimes sit in the seat. I would just keep a magic eraser on hand. Overall… It’s been great and I would buy it again! Hope that helps! xo . T
